Creative Healing

This past month the Ethiopian government officially announced that students will stay home until further notice and that most workers are highly encouraged to work from their home. Because of these uncertain times, we are providing extra emotional and psychological support for the kids. The weight of what’s going on can be very heavy, so we’ve been sharing bible stories that lift their hearts and spirits and are praying together often. We’re helping them combat boredom by motivating the kids to do some creative work and to try something new like drawing pictures, practicing musical instruments, and reading books that are not necessarily for school.

The group home Aunts are currently on leave due to COVID- 19, so all of the responsibilities are now solely on the Moms. Extra emotional support is being given to them through phone calls, texts, face-to-face talks while maintaining social distancing and listening to their concerns.
More food was purchased in advance due to the corona virus challenge. Group home Moms were also given tips on how to prepare nutritious food and some of the kids even enjoy helping out in the kitchen with meals!
Contribution to the Community
Items like sanitizer, alcohol, and soap that are useful to prevent the spread of COVID-19 were donated to Wolaitta Zone Health Birue through the Zonal Economic and Finance Development Office. This support amounted to 5,000 birr.
We were happy to also able to offer the same support to the Blind School in Sodo.
Ethiopian Easter
Ethiopian Easter was celebrated this year in the group homes. The children couldn’t celebrate the day all together as usual, but everyone had a wonderful time on this beautiful day despite the challenges. Special food items were delivered to the group homes for them to enjoy!
As we navigate through these challenges with the rest of the world, we pray that the threat will soon fade away. God is so good!
