Empowering Futures
May 20, 2024
We are thrilled to share the latest updates from our centers in Addis, Sodo, and Bishoftu, where we're empowering futures through academics, athletics, and, most importantly, growing in Christ.
Here's a brief summary of the highlights this past month:
Educational Support and Mentorship: Seven Grade 12 students in Addis are diligently preparing for the National University Entrance Examination. Our older boys and girls in Sodo are receiving regular mentorship from social workers and our project director, including individual coaching sessions and we are seeing a lot of personal growth.
A Special Visit: David visited this past month, spending quality time with all the children. His visit was especially motivating for our Grade 12 students facing their entrance exams. They were all encouraged by his love and attention.
Training and Development: We conducted a one-day training titled “Integrated Care for Orphans and Vulnerable Children” at the B Loved Ethiopia Center in Sodo. Forty-five trainees from various sister organizations participated and received formal certificates. Additionally, a half-day training on coaching conversations was held, focusing on asking powerful questions to support vulnerable kids.
Agricultural Advancements: Our Sodo development center emphasizes plant agriculture. Staff visited Sodo Agricultural College to learn from experienced teachers about agriculture and grafting. Efforts to plant valuable vegetables and fruits near the dairy farm are underway, involving daily laborers, staff, and the children.
Athletic Achievements: We are proud to support Alemayehu Belete, a talented runner from Bishoftu, who joined a team to advance his athletic career. We are committed to providing professional training, coaching, and mentorship to help him achieve national and international success.
Infrastructure and Income-Generating Projects: The construction of the B Loved center in Bishoftu is continuing to progress well, with significant milestones reached in the main building. Our poultry farm is thriving, with 1,000 hens now laying eggs, and our soap production initiative has successfully produced its first batch, and was distributed for feedback. Despite challenges like market inflation, we are effectively managing our budget to ensure continued progress.
We want to say a BIG thank you for your ongoing support, which enables us to provide these essential services and opportunities to our children!
