Going and Growing!

September 2, 2020

We’ve had a busy, but productive past month!

“The more that you read,
the more things you will know.
The more that you learn,
the more places you’ll go!”

— DR. SEUSS

The older kids voluntarily started to give tutorial classes to the younger kids, which has been beneficial for everyone!

They have been specifically working on developing their reading skills. The kids were given  biographies of people who positively contributed and significantly impacted the world. They were also given a monitoring tool that helps to measure the amount of reading and evaluate the progress and skill level of the kids. This month most of them (especially the older ones) finished 1-2 books from cover to cover! This has not only helped in the development of their reading skills, but also has boosted the interest of some of the children to write books (like Tekalegn and Birhanu)

The Addis and Sodo kids have continued taking their music classes (Guitar and Keyboard). For Sodo kids, the project director (Muller) is giving the training but the Addis kids are attending the class through Zoom since the music school is closed due to Covid-19.

Last summer,  B Loved Ethiopia Sodo Project mobilized the community and stakeholders to plant two hundred seedlings at the Development Center.

We are happy to report that all two hundred seedlings have grown and are doing well!

This year on Aug 21, one hundred edible and non-edible seedlings were planted and added to the previous growing seedlings. Although we couldn’t involve the community and stakeholders like last year, it was still a great success and we look forward to watching them all grow!

Last year, seventeen kids were moved to Addis Ababa for the purpose of acquiring a better education. This year, we have 10 kids that moved for the same purpose.

Before officially authorizing the transfer of the new children to Addis, the “Women and Children Affairs” head wanted to know the status of the seventeen children already there, so she came to Addis unexpectedly and visited both the children and their group homes.

The children and staff members warmly welcomed her, had coffee and a great conversation. The administration briefly explained the main purpose of bringing children to Addis and the dynamic of the group homes. After the discussion, she went to each class and saw the children’s bedrooms, lockers, etc. She was very impressed and promised to do a special program with her staff and B Loved children in the month of September.

It was a successful visit and a good opportunity for us to shorten the transferring process in the future.

The 10 additional kids have officially moved to Addis for the school year. They said their goodbyes and are all settled in.

Keep them in your prayers that they may have a smooth transition during this change.

Thank you as always for your continued love and support.
